What I Played Last Week (10/12/2015 – 10/18/2015)

Wednesday:

Regular Wednesday meetup at Cool Stuff. Had about 6 people show up, which was pretty good.

Five Tribes with the Artisans of Naqala expansion
pic2055255Five Tribes is a mancala-style game where players move workers around a tiled-board in an attempt to gain money and resources. It plays 2-4 players and lasts about an hour.

IMG_20151014_174306485I had only played Five Tribes once before this, and without the expansion. I really like this game! I think it’s fantastic! You can’t really plan your turns, cuz your plans will get thrown out the window in most cases, but it’s a ton of fun.

Dark Moon
pic2320134_lgDark Moon is a semi-cooperative deduction game where players attempt to complete missions, while repairing damage to their ship. It plays 3-7 players and lasts about an hour.

IMG_20151014_200427242Dark Moon was a fantastic semi-cooperative game! I feel like Dead of Winter has too much going on, and there’s just too much involvement, but this was the perfect amount. It’s simple, and the meta game of figuring out who the infected are is really fun. I was also impressed with how quickly it played with 5 players. I would definitely play this one again.

Tsuro of the Seas
pic1301853Tsuro of the seas is the sequel to Tsuro. It’s a tile-laying game where players attempt to move their ship along a path without falling off the board or running into a sea monster. It plays 2-8 players and lasts about 30 minutes.

IMG_20151014_205250071While I don’t like the player elimination in this game, it’s quick enough and interesting enough to watch that it’s not a big problem.
